Travel advice for Sherpur

  • Getting to Sherpur and Madhutila: Madhutila is about 200 km from Dhaka. Take a bus from Mohakhali via Mymensingh to Sherpur (about 4-4.5 hours), then a local bus to Nunni Bazar in Nalitabari and a rickshaw, CNG or motorbike to the park; the district portal also lists a direct Mohakhali-Nalitabari service for about Tk300.
  • Check Madhutila's condition: A 2020 Observer report said the park lost much of its beauty for lack of renovation; no newer source confirmed upgrades, so ask locally.
  • Chhanar Payesh (Sherpur): A century-old sweet of Sherpur town, made by simmering small flour-and-chhana balls in thickened milk with sugar and cardamom, and GI-registered in December 2024. Sweet shops in Sherpur town such as Nanda Gopal Mistanna Bhandar and Charu Sweets sell it.
