Travel advice for Manikganj

  • Manikganj Hazari Gur (Harirampur): A traditional jaggery from the Jhitka area of Harirampur upazila, prized for its distinctive taste and aroma and registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) product in 2024. A good local food gift to bring home.
  • Reaching Baliati Palace from Manikganj town: Baliati Palace is in Saturia upazila, about 18 km from Manikganj town (district portal). Take a bus (about Tk 15) or CNG to Saturia bus stand, then a rickshaw or auto-rickshaw to Baliati. There is no overnight accommodation at the site.
  • Reaching Teota Zamindar Bari: The portal says Teota lies in Shivalaya upazila: bus from Manikganj to Shivalaya (about 22 km), then a tempo or rickshaw for the last 6 km. From Dhaka you can also get off at Aricha ghat and take a CNG or rickshaw. No overnight stay is available at the site.
  • Plan Manikganj as a day trip or stay at a resort: The two main heritage sites have no lodging, so most visitors return to Dhaka or Manikganj town. Resorts exist at Ghior (DERA Resort, which says it is about an hour's drive from Dhaka), Singair and Paturia (Shibalaya).
  • Baliati Palace opening days and ticket: Baliati Palace is closed on Sundays and on Eid days; a Tk 20 ticket has been reported, with hours roughly 10am-6pm in summer and until about 5pm in winter. Sources disagree about Mondays, so check locally.
