Travel advice for Bagerhat
- Visiting the mazar and mosques: Khan Jahan Ali mazar is a living shrine; women pay respects from the courtyard outside. Shait Gumbad is also an active mosque, so dress modestly.
- Rickshaw between the sites: The mazar is about 4 km from the bus stand and Shait Gumbad about 2 km further west; hire a rickshaw or van and agree the fare before you start (an old guide quoted Tk 10 for the bus-stand stretch, which is now outdated).
- Sundarbans honey (Bagerhat): Wild honey gathered by mawalis in the Sundarbans, with Bagerhat among the collection and trading districts (Sharankhola range). It was registered as a GI product in 2025. Look for it in Bagerhat and Khulna honey shops.
- Day trip from Khulna: Local buses run regularly from Khulna to Bagerhat (about 45 minutes per an older guide; fares have risen since the old Tk 30). Most of the mosques and the mazar can be seen in a few hours, so many visitors come as a day trip.
- Shait Gumbad museum hours: The museum beside Shait Gumbad opens about 8am-12pm and 2pm-5pm (older guide). A 2019 report gave entry as Tk 20 for locals, Tk 100 for South Asians and Tk 200 for foreigners; confirm current rates and hours at the gate.
